The United Nations has been discussing the conservation of marine biodiversity and the redistribution of benefits outside of national jurisdictions. This presentation will explain the situation in a historical context, the attitude required of natural science researchers, and the current status of marine biodiversity.

The mysterious migratory ecology of eels and tuna, whose stocks are feared to be declining, will be outlined, along with the effects of global environmental change and environmental modification.

Neuronal circuits are composed of a network of many nerve cells, and are an important system that supports all kinds of animal activities. Recent technological advances have made it possible to investigate how neural circuits operate at the cellular level. In this presentation, I will introduce the latest techniques for studying neural circuits and discuss the application of these techniques to Drosophila, a useful model animal.
