Can People’s Preference Be Measured?
Miki Kozaki, Associate Professor, Division of Environmental Studies, Department of Socio-Cultural Environmental StudiesArchitectural environmental engineering research has been pursued to create spaces where people feel good, pleasant, and comfortable. This research areas are divided according to human sensory modality or environmental elements such as light, sound, temperature, air, and water. Kozaki laboratory conducts research focusing especially on visual information related to architectural light environment and visual environment, ranging widely from lighting to sign planning. This seminar introduces experiments that have been conducted in her laboratory and discusses a precise method to decide the “satisfactory” environment with the audience.
Haptics and Sensitivity
Yasutoshi Makino, Associate Professor, Division of Transdisciplinary Sciences, Department of Complexity Science and EngineeringNew experiences with a head-mounted display, such as virtual reality and metaverse, are becoming popular recently. Scientists are focusing on tactile sensation as an information presentation technology to improve the current audio-visual experiences. The seminar discusses the values of sensitivity produced by haptic technology experiences and how the sense of touch, the third sensitivity, should be used in modern life where our personal time is brimmed with audio-visual information, introducing cutting-edge research.
