Career Summary

2009: Graduated from Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, the University of Tokyo
2011: Received a Master's degree in Engineering, the University of Tokyo
2014: Received Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Tokyo
2014-2015: Part-time lecturer at Tokyo Denki University, Shibaura Institute of Technology, Meiji University, Ochanomizu University
2015-2020: Assistant Professor at Ochanomizu University
2020 April- May: Associate Professor at Ochanomizu University
2020 June- Present: Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo

Educational Activities

Graduate school: Introduction to Socio-Cultural Environmental Studies, Lighting Environment, Seminar on Lighting Environment, etc.
Undergraduate school: Principles of Environmental Engineering, Exercises in Mechanical Equipment and Environmental Engineering of Building, Luminous and Visual Environment in Buildings, Mechanical Equipment for Buildings 3, etc.

Research Activities

1)Research on spatial brightness: Deriving predictive equation of spatial brightness, which includes color information.
2)Research related to spatial impression: We have conducted impressive evaluation experiments to clarify the relationship between interior aspects and impression of the users.
3)Research related to lighting plan: We have participated in several renovation projects. We proposed lighting plan based on research findings, which enables to improve brightness and decrease energy-usage. Measurements of lighting environment and evaluation survey are done before and after the renovation to grasp the effect of the renovation.
4)Research related to visibility of signboards: Fundamental experiments (such as relationship between visibility and signboard elements such as color and area) to practical experiments (such as sign renovation projects) have been conducted to improve the visual information overdose environment.

Future Plan

Our laboratory is working on research on visual information, architectural spaces and environmental psychology. Our research aim is to gain the findings that contributes to the problem solving of the surrounding oddness or unpleasantness.

Messages to Students

In order to prepare the environment, we need a broad perspective, knowledge in other fields, and the ability to apply that knowledge. In the Department of Socio-Cultural Environmental Studies, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, the field of teachers are wide and there are many opportunities to be stimulated. I think you will have the opportunity of deepen your understanding of other fields while gaining expertise.
