Carbon Nanotube Composite Materials: From Materials to Industrial Materials

Visiting Professor Toshio Ogasawara

Fifteen years ago, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were a material. Now, it is being replaced by industrial materials. In the near future, CNTs may surpass carbon fiber as a new structural material. In this lecture, the progress and future prospects of CNT composites in the past 15 years will be reviewed.

The Mechanism of Memory

Associate Professor Tatsuhiro Hisatsune

Memory is the process of remembering, storing, and recalling certain information. It is now known that memory information is not limited to remembering and recalling the past, but is also used to determine future actions in light of past events. It would be nice if this memory information could be stored semi-permanently, but most memory information is fluid and will be forgotten. In this laboratory, we have been conducting memory research mainly using mouse models with impaired memory. In this talk, we will discuss the mechanism of memory, referring to the results obtained from Alzheimer's disease model mice and human studies in which healthy elderly people participated.

supercomputing

Professor Yoji Okuda

We will introduce some aspects of computational science research using state-of-the-art computing resources such as the K computer, GPGPU, and cloud computing. Specifically, what does it mean to build a physical model in a computer? The lecture will cover the importance of parallel processing, case studies through industry-university collaboration, and the possibilities and limitations of simulation.
