Invitation to Plasma Application Research

Associate Professor Takehito Ito

In recent years, however, there have been reports on the generation of plasmas in a variety of atmospheres, from atmospheric pressure to supercritical fluids and liquid atmospheres, as well as new plasma application research using these atmospheres. In this presentation, I will explain the characteristics of plasma reaction fields and introduce various applied researches mainly using atmospheric pressure plasmas, which can be generated relatively easily, in the hope that it will be a catalyst for new interdisciplinary research.

Learning from Insects about the Mechanism of Sex-Determining Switches

Associate Professor Masataka Suzuki

Sex in insects is determined by the switching of genes that play the role of a switch to determine whether the insect is male or female. The mechanism in the cell that plays the role of switching is splicing. Splicing is appropriately regulated based on information about whether the cell is male or female. In this lecture, we will focus on the switch by splicing and introduce the mechanism of how sex is determined in insects.
