One million people in Japan are infected with HTLV-1, which causes adult T-cell leukemia, HTLV-1-related myelopathy, and other intractable diseases. In our laboratory, we are trying to elucidate the pathogenesis of HTLV-1-related diseases by using the latest information life science, which is a fusion of molecular biology and information life science, and to translate the results into clinical medicine. I would like to introduce some of our achievements and discuss the current status of measures against HTLV-1 in Japan.

Video archiving and information and communication technology to reweave nature and people

Lecturer Kazuhiko Nakamura

Since ancient times, people have discovered the laws of natural phenomena and have attempted to control nature with technology. However, we are now witnessing the limits of these efforts in the form of environmental problems and natural disasters. Because of this historical background, technology tends to be seen as opposed to nature, but it is possible to use technology to "reweave" the desirable relationship between nature and humans. From this perspective, examples of the use of video archives and information and communication technologies (ICT) will be introduced.

Associate Professor Kozo Okazaki

Elucidation and control of physical properties opened up by advanced laser photoelectron spectroscopy

Associate Professor Kozo Okazaki

We will introduce the researches aimed at elucidating the mechanism of physical properties and their control using ultra-high resolution photoemission spectroscopy and ultra-fast time-resolved photoemission spectroscopy using state-of-the-art lasers.
