Technologies for Reducing Skin Frictional Resistance of Aircrafts and Practical Use

KWAK Dongyun, Visiting Professor

Technologies to reduce skin frictional resistance of aircrafts are now being developed and expected to put in practical use. In this lecture, these technologies such as riblets, laminar flow control and the relevant research activities will be introduced.

SUGIMIRA Kaoru, Associate Professor

Dynamics of Development of Animal Forms

SUGIMIRA Kaoru, Associate Professor

In the transformation process of genetic information encoded on genomes into phenotypes, various physical and chemical elements work. In this seminar, multiple functions of mechanical perturbations in morphogenesis will be introduced.

Architectural Design with Transparency of Sunshine through Leaves

SATO Jun, Associate Professor

Producing transparent architectural designs has become possible by mechanical optimization technology and digital fabrication. A semitransparent structure plays a role of a filter for the sunlight. Inside the structure, you can feel the light from outside natural as if the space is filled with “komorebi”, the sunlight coming through leaves and branches of trees. Optimizing the structure patterns to have a two-dimensional power spectrum of “komorebi” can upgrade to be multipurpose optimization technology including mechanical performance and light environment optimization. Light and transparent structures have possibility to be built as a base on the moon and/or Mars and have strength to protect people inside the structure even if it gets destroyed by disasters.
