Novel Biology with Parasites as Research Models

KIKUCHI Taisei, Professor, Division of Integrated Biosciences

Parasitic infection is one of the unsolved global health issues. In particular, Vermes (worms) damage the health of over one-quarter of the world’s population. Parasites’ complex life cycle and abilities to trick the host’s immune system make efficient infection control difficult. In addition, parasites acquired various special abilities to adapt to peculiar environments. Therefore, parasites are fascinating research models. This seminar introduces research on the parasitic mechanism and unique life phenomena of parasites.
