Transdisciplinary Fusion Energy Center

Aims of this center

To ensure that the forthcoming decarbonized society brings further development to civilization and remains truly sustainable, it is essential to secure abundant and controllable new energy sources. Fusion energy holds great promise in meeting these requirements, carrying high expectations for humanity. Not only will it significantly advance the decarbonization of the power generation sector, but it will also bring about a fundamental transformation in the energy supply chain and energy security. As a key technology, fusion energy is crucial for realizing a sustainable society under new value systems.

Our center aims to cover all aspects of fusion energy research, from fundamental studies to societal implementation. We will pursue transdisciplinary and integrated research on the elemental technologies required for the practical application of fusion energy, as well system development that integrates these technologies. This will be conducted through collaboration with domestic and international organizations, industry-academia partnerships, and engagement with diverse stakeholders. Additionally, we will nurture young researchers and industry professionals who will contribute to the establishment of fusion energy technology, the development of social frameworks, and the early societal implementation and industrialization of fusion energy, ultimately contributing to the creation of a decarbonized society with sustainable growth.
