The Graduate School of Frontier Sciences holds orientation events for new students at the beginning of each semester to provide the necessary information to conduct research. The department or division guidance is given in Japanese, and campus-wide guidance in English for all GSFS students.
A buddy system, which we call the Tutor System, is available to international students who have not lived in Japan before. Newly arrived students can get support from a "tutor" in the first six months of their stay in Japan to start a new life. In most cases, senior students at the same laboratory will be tutors. They are reliable supporters who assist international students in completing the necessary procedures to settle in Japan, such as opening a bank account, residence registration at the city hall, etc.
Kashiwa International Office (KIO) (https://www.u-tokyo.ac.jp/adm/inbound/en/kashiwa.html) supports international students and faculty members who belong to the research organizations on the Kashiwa Campus for their life in Japan.
