Earthquakes as an Impact Fracture Phenomenon of Solid Materials
Professor Koji Kaminishi
Although seismic disasters and impact collapses of structures are directly related to the safety of our lives, the mechanisms of occurrence and progression of these destructive phenomena are actually not well understood because they usually develop at such high speeds that they cannot be captured by the naked eye. Here, I will explain what we can see when we consider the process of physical earthquake occurrence and planetary ring formation as impact engineering fracture phenomena of solid materials.
Evolution of life as revealed by genomes
Associate Professor Wataru Iwasaki
In this lecture, we will discuss the concept and the use of bioinformatics to understand the evolution of life from genome data. In this lecture, we will introduce the concept and the bioinformatics used to understand the evolution of life from genome data.
Thinking about Urban Village Forest
Lecturer Toru Terada
Discovered as a symbol of tranquil countryside, satoyama has become a precious natural environment in the city. It has acquired various positions in the city, such as a place for citizens' activities, a place for natural regeneration, a place for production of biological resources, a commons in residential complexes, and a place for thematic community formation. In this lecture, we will introduce several such examples and consider the relationship between cities and nature through satoyama.
